A fast-paced life can take its toll on your body. Toxins in your body can affect your health and make you feel lethargic and reduce productivity, so considering an Olive Oil Detox is a great option. Toxins can be found everywhere today including air pollution, by vehicles exhaust, industrial smoke, and other pollutants. Our society as a whole is very stressed and overwhelmed with life. We have a tendency to eat whatever is easy which means we go with mostly, processed foods, fast food or frozen dinners. These are laden with toxins and we know toxins are not our friend.
Our body does the best job that it can to detoxify our systems every day. There are many great benefits that you get from olive oil. Olive oil is considered to be one of the best edible oils for the body. Olive oil is high in Omega 3 and 6, vitamin E and monounsaturated fatty acids; which have been linked to decreased blood pressure, improved cardiovascular health and reduction in cholesterol. A few research studies have also linked olive oil consumption to cancer prevention. It is not surprising that there is also an old adage about two spoons of olive oil daily keeping you slim and fit!
Olive oil lubricates and helps to regulate bowel movements. The easiest way is taking one teaspoon of olive oil in the morning and at night to incur bowel movements. This helps flush out harmful toxins that are stored inside of our body. Olive oil is excellent for the digestive tract, helping to maintain the balance of bacteria that can be harmful. When you add all of this together, it is a winning combination for your body, and a healthy body is a happy body!
Olive oil works best to detox the liver and also help clean out the gallbladder. The liver is the organ that filters blood and processes everything that you take in your body like food. Detoxifying the liver can improve its efficiency and lead to increased energy levels and more overall stamina. The gallbladder secretes bile into the small intestine. The bile works by neutralizing acids and emulsifying fats from your partially digested food.
What is the Way to go About an Olive Oil Detox
Once you have decided that an olive oil detox is the best choice for you and are all ready to start remember that a cold-pressed, extra-virgin, organic, olive oil detox is one of the easiest and most hassle free detoxes out there.
My husband and I went the straight-forward way and had a teaspoon of olive oil followed by a glass of water, every morning and evening when we did the detox. We also completely stopped drinking alcohol and eating anything packaged or canned. You can mix olive oil in a glass of grapefruit or orange juice and drink that too. Although there is controversy about this, we personally have found olive oil helpful for as a gallbladder flush. It is known for cutting fat deposits from the gallbladder and liver! It may even help release gallstones if used with lemon juice.
It is best to modify your diet by eliminating the amount of processed foods, simple carbohydrates, salt, and sugar you eat before you start this diet (and always :)). Changing your diet will bring out the benefits of olive oil. Also, remember to drink as much water as possible to help your body wash out toxins. Drinking two glasses of water as soon as you wake up will boost your energy levels and help increase your water intake. Note how much water you are drinking and make sure the amount is at least ½ ounce for every pound of body weight you carry. Be sure that the water is ideally from an alkaline water machine, but at least pure spring water. The next best choice is to drink water that is filtered. Do not drink reverse osmosis or distilled water as a regular source of your water intake as it has all the natural minerals removed from it and can even cause an imbalance in your electrolyte system.
After the detox, it is best to stick with the magic that is cold-pressed, organic, extra virgin olive oil. Keep it in your diet, but remember olive oil is ideally not be cooked, and retains most of its beneficial properties when consumed raw. If you must cook with it be sure to use very low heat. Organic pure Coconut Oil is preferred for cooking and extremely beneficial.
One way I have incorporated olive oil in our daily lives, is as salad dressing. I just toss together a few greens, halved cherry tomatoes some diced chicken and dress it with a mixture of lemon juice and olive oil and my husband loves it!
