It’s Time to Love Yourself!

You’ve probably heard this phrase countless times, “You must love yourself before you can love anyone else.” Most of us go to great lengths to foster our love towards others.  But loving ourselves seems like a foreign notion. We look in the mirror and see our own flaws or remember past failings that prevent us from loving ourselves unconditionally. Making a commitment to love yourself is the best decision you will ever make. It will affect every area of your life; your work, your relationships, your habits, and even your future. In this article I’m going to share many ways to love yourself wholeheartedly.

Love Yourself!

Love Yourself!

Let Go of Negative Thoughts!

Negative thoughts have an instant, destructive effect on your life. They stop you from achieving what you want, make you feel worse about something, and add negative value to your life. Many people think negatively about themselves and have trouble letting go of those thoughts. Sometimes, the negative thoughts are caused by people you love whose opinion you value.

The first step to overcoming negative thoughts and beliefs is being aware that you are having them and then admitting that you created them to meet certain needs. Acknowledge that you have found new, positive ways of fulfilling those needs. Release the old patterns and embrace the new. Be kind to yourself as you adapt to new ways of thinking. Treat yourself the way you would treat someone you love deeply.

Create a Plan for Dealing with Setbacks

Once you start loving yourself, there are many things that can throw you off your path. You may fail at something, think negatively once in a while, or come across unkind people who hurt your feelings. Setbacks are part of life and should never remove you from your chosen path. Plan how you will deal with such situations when they arise. Remind yourself that you cannot control external situations, but you can control your reactions. Concentrate on writing your story and don’t pay attention to others – especially those who want to derail your journey.

One of my favorite way to express love for myself is to write inspiring notes and place them different places around my house.  Others do it my getting a manicure or pedicure.  Taking care of yourself always feels good even a new outfit can make you feel loved.  Self enrichment is another huge way to show self love.  Taking a quilting or other craft class is a great way to show self love to by bring on more creativity in your life.  Reading a good book is another way to show self love too.

Don’t Seek the Approval of Others

Teenagers and young people are often surrounded by many friends because they want to be seen as cool and popular. But as they become older, they realize that it’s quality – not quantity – that matters when it comes to relationships. Don’t work hard to win the approval of others, you don’t have to replicate what everybody else is doing. If you want to do things differently, go ahead!

If you find yourself having a setback it’s best to remember who you are and where you come from.  Do not let anyone steal your joy ever!

What You think of Me is None of MY Business

Never forget that your time on earth is precious. If you live your life seeking the approval of others, you won’t have lived at all. You will never learn to love yourself if you depend on others. Avoid people who constantly bring you down and stop worrying about people who never worry about you. Your worth doesn’t decrease because of people’s inability to see it.

You can do anything when you're positive about it and love yourself!

Surround Yourself with Loving People

This is one of the secrets of learning to love yourself. Your friends determine what you become. They will either bring you down or lift you up. You can’t choose your family or workmates, but you can choose your friends. Pick them carefully. Kind, loving, supportive, and positive people will change your life for the better. It goes without saying that you must also possess these qualities so that people will want to be around you. Do not constantly engage with judgmental, unkind, and negative people. The message you are putting across is that you aren’t worth loving.

Repeat Self-Love Affirmations Every Single Day

Love Yourself.2Self-love affirmations will get rid of any issues that may be preventing you from loving yourself. The words you use to describe how you feel can trigger emotions of happiness. When you look at things positively and see the good in every situation, you will remain cheerful and optimistic. The quality of your life is determined by how you feel every single moment hence one of your top goals should be to use self-love affirmations to stay focused on what you want and take your mind off what you don’t want. Some of the self-love affirmations that will teach you how to love yourself are:

  • I love myself unconditionally.
  • I treat myself with love and kindness every single day.
  • I am proud of my accomplishments whether big or small.
  • I forgive myself for past mistakes and embrace the future with love.
  • I am a loving person and I surround myself with loving people.
  • I am a worthy person and I love, respect, and trust myself.

Repeating these affirmations may seem awkward at first, but it will make the positive thoughts to sink in and you will begin to believe them.

Care for Your Body, Your Finances, and Your Time

It’s hard to love yourself when you are broke, sick, or overly stressed. But when you are healthy, financially stable, and well rested, you’ll find it easy to love yourself. Eat healthy food, get enough exercise, make good investment decisions, and manage your time effectively. Establish good habits that will make your journey easier. Habits last a lifetime once established. Keep in mind that life is short and time is limited. If you don’t spend your time well, you’ll waste it and end up regretting.

Taking care of responsibilities is loving yourself more.

Learn How to Love Yourself First and You’ll Be Able to Love Others

As the old adage goes, “Charity begins at home.” Love starts internally, not externally. You can’t hate yourself and love everybody else. Self-love does not mean that you become selfish, it is the foundation of loving others. Selfishness means only thinking about yourself and never worrying about anybody else.

Lack of self-love has been connected to many things – from failure to depression. When you don’t love yourself, you create room for many negative situations. Subconsciously, you sabotage any chances of success because success leads to happiness and you don’t want to make someone you hate happy.

You can only love others if you love yourself first. Don’t put a lot of energy into loving others and forget about yourself. Learn to love yourself and you will lead a successful and positive life.
