What is Ascension Meditation?

Ascension meditation is a mantra-style meditation that is used in the interest of achieving nirvana.

Ascension meditation involves several techniques that help you to ascend above the chaos and clutter of your mind. These techniques, also known as Ascension Attitudes, are intended to promote love, compassion, praise and gratitude. As such, this type of meditation is not affiliated with any particular religion or belief system.

It is important to note that the use of the word ‘ascension’ in this context is not related to either  the Christian interpretation, or any new age definitions. In other words, ascension meditation can be practiced by anyone, at any time. Encouragingly, ascension meditation is referred to as an effortless meditation. An effortless practice that garners incredible benefits? Yes please!

The Benefits of Ascension Meditation

Does meditation help? The short answer is yes. Different people are drawn to different types of meditation practices, although all of them can be seen as useful. Ascension meditation is a great practice for beginners and experts alike. It’s a true example of the ‘simple yet powerful’ practices that have the potential to change your life and wellbeing.

Ascension meditation is usually embarked upon for one of two reasons: health, or spiritual and personal development. However, these two reasons influence each other and it’s difficult, perhaps futile, to try to separate the two.

Ishayas, the proponents of ascension meditation, consider this form of meditation to have the health benefits associated with reaching the deepest level of rest. Their argument is that the body needs to rest in order to heal itself. Importantly, they are of the opinion that at least 90% of illnesses are psychosomatic. This is not to say that these illnesses and syndromes are not real. Rather, what they are saying is that these physical symptoms are caused by mental and emotional factors that are a direct result of leading a lifestyle that is characterized by too much stress and insufficient rest.

Ascension meditation attempts to heal body and mind through addressing this chronic imbalance of stress and rest. Ascension techniques are able to heal your body on a deep level through achieving an incredibly deep state of relaxation.

I’m pretty sure that most of us can identify with the symptoms of a modern lifestyle. It seems as though people all around us are constantly complaining of feeling tired and stressed out. And we’re certainly not strangers to the many maladies that are a direct result of this modern approach to work and life.

Ascension meditation is used to treat all kinds of illnesses and conditions, including: stress, sleeping disorders, high blood pressure, diabetes, and even aging. Yes, you read that last one correctly. According to ishaya.ca, studies suggest that after one year of regular practice the average person has a biological age reduction of 7 years. This means if you are 45 when you begin Ascension after one year you will be 46 but your body will be more like a 39 year old.” No need to search for that elusive fountain of youth – the secret is out!

So How Exactly Does Ascension Meditation Work?

Ascension meditation is a cosmic energy meditation. It utilizes high vibration techniques to increase the frequency of your thoughts and emotions. Any limiting frequencies in your psyche are removed.

This allows your mind to benefit from the higher frequency of thoughts, and your body to benefit from the higher frequency of emotions. This will enable you to act from a place of love, compassion, giving, integrity, and inner calm. You will be able to clear any unresolved emotions and remove any limiting thought patterns.

Ascension meditation rids your nervous system of all accumulated stress. Accumulated stress is believed to manifest itself in different forms: physical tension, entrenched beliefs, and behaviors.

Through dissolving the underlying stress in your nervous system, ascension meditation allows you to experience an expansion in consciousness. It is this clarity that introduces love, joy and peace in your life, empowering you to have a more effective and enjoyable existence.

How to Practice Ascension Meditation

The Ishayas recommend that ascension meditation be practiced for 20 minutes, three times a day. At first, it may be challenging to find an extra hour in your day for meditation. If that is the case, then simply aim to practice for one 20 minute period every day.

Although it is possible to acquire meditation help in the form of courses, ascension meditation can also be practiced as a form of self meditation.

Here’s What To Do

  1. Find a quiet environment in which you can meditate for 20 minutes without being disturbed   or distracted.
  2. Sit comfortably, with your back erect, and close your eyes.
  3. At first, simply focus on the natural rhythm of your breath.
  4. Next, shift your attention to the four Ascension Attitudes described below, focusing on each one in turn.
  5. Stay with the rhythm of the breath and sustain your focus for the full 20 minutes.
  6. If you notice random thoughts or your mind straying, do not resist or judge.  Allow the thoughts to come and go without conflict with them. Know that your focusing power will improve over time.

The Four Ascension Attitudes

  • Praise: focus on the positive elements of your life. Remember that to think positively is a choice that you make.
  • Gratitude: be an independent observer of your thoughts, feelings, and bodily sensations. See them as separate from you. Ask yourself, if you are not your body and you are not these thoughts, then who and what are you?
  • Love: let go of self-judgment in order to feel more love. Feel the unconditional love that is around you, and flows through you, as you.
  • Compassion: combine the other three Attitudes in order to develop a mindset that will stabilize you.  Allow your heart to open and experience non-resistance.

Finally, remember that ascension meditation is like any other meditation in that it takes time to practice and master the skill so that you can reap the rewards.

Give your body time to develop more neurons so that the Ascension Attitudes can be strengthened.

Be committed to keeping the Ascension Attitudes in mind throughout the day, even when you aren’t meditating. Living with these Attitudes as a Way of Thinking and Being will allow you to find that your Life becomes more reflective of the beauty that each one of these provides.
