Why Consider Attending a Healing Retreat?

Every day is an adventure!  Our adventure might be perceived as joyful or stressful. Most people have a continuous state of stress and worry that builds up, eventually causing a sense of depression, anger and other health related problems.  One of the most powerful things we can do when we are feeling tired, stressed and generally having more bad days than good ones is to consider a healing retreat.

Too often it feels like we are stuck in a rut, entangled in conflict and out of sync with our hopes and dreams. It seems like our lives are going in a direction we cannot seem to control, but it does not have to be that way.

At a healing retreat, with the support of a loving community, you can embark on a spiritual journey that can take you one step closer to emotional well-being.  Actually, personal growth and spiritual healing is a lifelong process, but opting to go for a spiritual or a spa retreat can definitely speed things up.

This may sound like a luxury only the uber rich with money and time to spare can afford, but there are numerous healing retreats that are affordable by those on a budget- all you have to do is do a little bit of research!

Spiritual retreats are designed specifically for the purpose of healing the mind and body. You will find that at almost any retreat you choose to go to there will be experienced advisors trained in Yoga, meditation and therapy.  Here  you will feel safe, supported and guided through the process of channeling your emotions and talking about your problems.

In order to this, meditation will be a big part of your journey, which is why healing retreats are also known as meditation retreats. If done properly, meditation allows you to get in touch with your inner self, and feel more at peace with the world.

Benefits of a Healing Retreat

  • Stress reduction
  • Increased Attention Span
  • Improved Brain Function
  • Reduced Blood Pressure
  • Improved Metabolic Rate
  • Weight Reduction
  • Better Sleep

Many retreats will also have group therapy sessions, or storytelling sessions, where the advisors along with the individuals participating share their stories and find that their words are met with complete understanding and no judgment.

Not only is acceptance an incredible feeling, but speaking about your problems also helps you come to terms with the realities of your life. And with support, you find that you can find solutions to the troubles you face in your day to day life.

Sometimes, we can feel awkward sharing our problems with the other gender. For example; a lot of women feel more comfortable opening up to fellow females which is why there are healing retreats specifically for women and men as well.

You will also find that most meditation retreats focus on clean and healthy eating- in all likelihood they will not keep alcohol, processed meats and junk food on the premises.  Instead  most of the food that you’ll be consuming will be healthy, nutritious, simplistic yet delicious.

Some healing retreats will also have proper counseling sessions where nutritionists will coach you on healthy eating, and take you through its benefits. Other activities may include hikes, rainforest adventures and camping. The primary reason for these outdoor activities is that most retreats recognize the correlation of exercise and physical fitness with emotional well-being.  It is also shown that being in nature is very calming and healing.

You can also opt to go to a spa retreat, which is not only a much needed getaway for your mind but also your body. At a spa retreat, you can expect to find top notch masseuse’ and spa treatments which will help your body to relax and rejuvenate itself. Spa retreats are ideal for couples, as they can enjoy this alone time together to bond and become even closer.

There many excuses that may arise as to why you cannot go to a healing retreat. When we are about to confront going within and allowing ‘unfinished business’ to arise,  we might find ourselves with many ‘reasons’ that it just won’t work.

For example, you have to work, there are family obligations, a tight budget, or you believe that your problems are simply too complicated to be solved through talking and meditation. All that maybe true, but the idea behind a healing retreat is to put yourself first.

It is about taking time out for yourself and getting away from a negative and stressful situation and go to a place where you can talk to virtual strangers and find acceptance along with comfort and support. You may also find that you do not share  with others, rather your own deep contemplation will bring clarity.  Sometimes it is just about getting away and completely relaxing the mind, body, spirit and your natural state of harmony reoccurs.

Finding the time to detoxify and de-stress will not only have a positive impact on you, but also those around you, as they pick up on your positive energy.

A healing retreat can virtually change your life because you are able to focus on what is needing the most attention.  Sometimes we do not know what the core issue is until we quiet down enough to be able to ‘see’ what is actually happening.

Give yourself the gift of healing in a retreat setting.
