There are new diet trends appearing in the news media every day including Lemon Detox’s.
These diets are often times a new fad or the latest hype with their many claims for better health and astounding weight loss but then they quickly fade as they are dis-proven to be effective or even bad for your health.
I am going to give you specific facts and some helpful hints that will help improve your life and idea’s to add more lemons to your daily water drinking regimen that will help you gently detox your body.
Detoxifying our bodies is an important process to keep us feeling fabulous and full of vitality. We ingest toxins daily from eating, drinking and even simply breathing. I am always on the lookout for the most natural, organic, GMO free and healthy ways to help rid my body of these toxins and lemons is certainly a safe part of this process.
Ingesting lemons and lemon juice will help keep your digestive tract healthier while safely, gently and effective detoxing your system, which will also reduce pain and inflammation.
Since lemons are a citrus fruit they are high in vitamin C and B. This is a health benefit because it enhances mineral absorption when they’re consumed. The citric acid from lemons also improves your digestion by often acting like an antacid and aiding in constipation and aiding in the removal of parasites from your digestive tract.
Lemons also contain antioxidants called bioflavonoids that are known to have many health benefits including improving the function of your blood vessels. They also act as a blood purifier, lower high blood pressure, aid in the fight against cancer, prevention of diabetes and also help eliminate the occurrence of kidney stones.

If this is experienced decrease the amount right away. Another consideration with too much lemon is tooth erosion so be sure to mix your lemon juice with water when drinking lemon infused water. Because lemon water detoxes your system you may have an increase in your bathroom trips this is a good thing but should be planned. Be sure to adequately hydrate with pure clean drinking water (alkaline balanced if possible) to replace the fluid loss.
Here are a few recipes to help your success: First of all be sure you have pure clean drinking water; I discuss this in my article titled “Water Detox | How to Keep Your Body Working Perfectly and Efficiently” Water is a very important factor in your all around health. Please drink ½-1 ounce of filtered or alkaline water for each pound of body weight.
I’ve found if you roll lemons on the counter by placing firm pressure before you cut them in half this will allow you to get the most juice from the lemon. Next your going to need a really great lemon squeezing tool. The best tool I found squeezes a half a lemon at a time and keeps most of the seeds out. Save any left over juice by storing in an ice cube tray and immediately freezing. Always use pure clean water (alkaline balanced if possible).
Spicy Lemon Water Drink (For weight loss and cleansing)
6 – 8 oz Pure Clean Water
1 TBSP Organic Maple Syrup
1/4 tsp Cayenne Pepper
½ – 1 Organic Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice
Combine all ingredients. Add more maple syrup or even some liquid stevia to make it sweeter and if you enjoy spicy use more cayenne pepper but be cautious it can get spicy quick. Cayenne pepper is known to increase metabolism and stimulate weight loss too. You can drink this hot with warm water or cold with ice cubes. Either way it’s great if you like a drink with a little kick.
Natural Sugar Free Lemonade
6 – 8 oz Pure Clean Water
1 – 2 Organic Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice
8 – 10 Drops Organic GMO Free Liquid Stevia
Combine all ingredients. I like this one with ice on a warm day. The lemons are refreshing and cool you down. Liquid stevia is a natural sweetener that is a replacement for sugar that is sugar free as well as calorie free it comes from the stevia plant. A great place to research this is at www.stevia.com. They make flavored stevia also. I love the berry and grape in this recipe.
Lemon Water & Flax Seed Flush (For Weight loss)
6 – 8 oz Hot water
½ – 1 Organic Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice
1 tsp Ground Flaxseed
Combine and drink. This drink is best in the morning to increase your metabolism and gently aids in your digestion of foods you eat throughout your day.
I enjoy lemons the most by having a few slices in my water or in my natural decaffeinated herbal tea.
There are other health benefits from ingesting more lemons as well as other remedies.
Here are some of my favorite other uses for lemon that have improved my health:
Dental Care – Fresh squeezed lemon juice mixed 50/50 with water is soothing to irritated gums, relieves tooth aches, helps bad breath and treats those dreadful canker sores because it destroys bacteria causing these problems. Too strong and it can effect your natural tooth enamel.
Hair Care – Lemon juice applied to your itchy scalp helps soothe the itch and hydrate the skin to decrease flaking. The lemon juice also hydrates your hair to make it shiny.
Skin Care – Because of the amount of vitamin C in lemon’s and the hydrating effects of water this helps hydrate your skin. Lemon water applied directly to the skin has a cooling effect as well as help minimize wrinkles and ache breakouts. A slice of lemon will also soften corns and calluses. Apply a round lemon slice overnight in a sock and in the morning it will be softer.
Throat Infections – Lemons aid in the fight of bacteria so naturally they can help with throat infections. Mix 4 Tablespoons of water, 4 Tablespoons of fresh squeezed Organic Lemon Juice and ½ Teaspoon of Himalayan Sea Salt then gargle with it 3 – 4 times a day.
It is my strong opinion a lemon water only detox is unhealthy as it negatively impacts the natural PH balance of our body however adding lemons to your detoxification process is very valuable for weight loss and cleansing your system internally and externally.
