So what the heck are Self-Healing Materials?

I think of physical things like wood or plastic when I think of materials and in this article I am referring to the body and what Self-Healing foods can help it heal itself.

Self-Healing means to be able to repair itself.  The body is a Master at that.  There are some materials found in nature that have the ability to self-heal.  Self-Healing materials or foods are consumed and can assist the body in healing itself.  Scientific research shows that the kind of nutrition contained in these certain foods can actually help heal many common ailments.

For example, studies reveal that a diet loaded with healthy vegetables and fruits can actually help prevent certain cancers and heart problems.  Eating healthier may prevent the need to rush to doctors or hospitals often.  What if your your body had what it needed to heal itself?  Self-Healing foods help with digestion, elimination, weight loss and the self-healing of your body.

Eating right also means that you have to give up poor eating habits. Instead of unhealthy fruit drinks, make your own by juicing fresh organic vegetables and eating whole fruits at home.  Having this instead of cake, cookies or brownies for dessert is better for your body as those complex sugars may feel good for a moment but they actually end making you feel worse in the long run!

The majority of whole foods and Superfoods available to mankind are self-healing. Planning your diet to have more of these foods can help increase the self-healing potential of your body. It is also important for you to consult a nutritionist so that you can develop the best meal plan for your kind of lifestyle. You must choose foods that strengthen your immune system, detox your body and help your body self-heal from disease and other ailments.

The following are some major examples of self-healing foods you should consider adding to your diet.

Cherries – Cherries are an excellent sources of nutrients that your body needs. Research suggests that eating cherries regularly can help your body fight cancer. If you have sleeping problems, then cherries should be an important part of your evening meal or late night snack. They contain a hormone known as melatonin that helps normalize your sleeping circles. The hormone also plays an important part in protecting your cell membranes from destruction.  Cherries have also been associated with healing a number of other ailments such as gout, chronic pain and heart ailments. Cranberries – Cranberries are another important self-healing fruit. They are also a natural treatment for a number of ailments.  Cranberries contain proanthocyanidins which is a group of phytochemicals that helps strengthen the body’s immune system. Cranberries are used in the treatment of urinary infections and a host of other ailments. Taking about 3-4 ounces of unsweetened natural cranberry juice regularly can help prevent the recurring of these infections. Keep in mind that 4 ounces of this juice has about 15gm of sugar which is on the high side of what I suggest you take in as sugar, especially in one sitting. You can add Stevia if you find this juice to be too tart or bitter. The berries also a high amount of phenol when compared to grapes. Phenol is known to curb the production of LDL cholesterol in the arteries. This helps cure cardiovascular diseases and prevents heart attack.

Chicory Leaves – Chicory leaves or simply curly endive are another example of self-healing foods. You can easily incorporate them in your diet by making homemade salads. They contain more vitamin A than any other green vegetable. Vitamin A is important in helping your body self heal as it helps stimulate your immune system. Moreover, Vitamin A is also important in strengthening your eyesight. The Chicory leaves also contain a chemical known as beta-carotene, which helps fight cancer.

Spinach and Kale – Both of these healthy foods have good amounts of iron (Kale slightly more) which is good for blood health. Both have equal amounts of fiber, which is critical for blood sugar and insulin resistance.  Kale wins in the Vitamin A department.  Vitamin A is important for eyes and skin.  Spinach gives 56% of the RDI and Kale gives a massive 206% of the RDI.  B6 also wins in the B6 department.  B6 helps with heart and brain health.  Kales gives 6% of the RDI and Spinach 3%. Tissue growth and repair is supported nicely by Vitamin C. Kales excels again!  It gives 9% of the RDI and Spinach 1%.  Vitamin K is important for blood clotting so if you are on blood thinners such as warfarin, coumadin or eliquest speak to your doctor before eating high levels of high Vitamin K foods such as Kale and Spinach.  Kale has a whooping 684% RDI and Spinach 181%, If you look at Folate, Calcium, Copper and Manganese you will find the same results.  Kale is more potent with virtually all of these vitamins and nutrients.  This does not mean Spinach is not valuable.  It is a powerful food and if you like Kale, ingesting more of this will give you more intense nutrition than Spinach.

Sweet Potato – Sweet potatoes are another important form of self healing foods. They are full of nutrients and fiber to empower and protect your body.  They contain beta-carotene, which helps fight cancer and which is converted into vitamin A by your body that helps in protect and improve your eyesight.  Sweet potatoes are also an excellent source of fiber, which helps in digestions and lowers cholesterol levels in your body.  They are also rich in vitamin B, C and E which helps boost your immune system and keep your body disease free.

Sweet potatoes are an example of a slow-digesting carbohydrate which helps in the regulation blood sugar levels in your body. Sweet potatoes are low in calories and therefore excellent carbohydrates that will keep your body lean and healthy.

Watercress – Watercress is an excellent source of nutrients that grow in slow moving water and near springs.  It is rich in minerals and vitamins and should be an important member of your preferred salad leaves.  It tastes great and can be tossed into a salad, wilt into a pastas, piled into sandwiches or used to brew a tasty watercress soup! It is the excellent food stuff for detoxifying against nicotine and other kinds of cancer drugs. Watercress also contains beta-phenylethyl isothiocyanate (PEITC) which is an important anticancer substance.  If your body contains high amounts of beta-phenylethyl isothiocyanate (PEITC) then it can actively fight and prevent cancer.

Coconut oil – Coconut oil is one of the ‘Superfoods’. It contains an unequaled fatty acid combination that offers numerous health benefits to your body.  The coconut oils contain Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCTs) which are a great source of energy. They also help manage brain disorders such as Alzheimer’s and epilepsy. Coconut oils also help kill fungi, bacteria and virus in the body and thus helps keep your body healthy. They are often used to make hair and body moisturizers because coconut oil can help your body cells retain moisture and which protects it from infections and sunburns.

Himalayan Sea Salt is the preferred salt to use as it has the ability to:

  • Helps balance pH in all your cells, in particular the brain cells
  • Support blood sugar in staying balanced
  • Better absorption in the colon or foodstuffs
  • Helps with sinus health
  • Vascular health is improved upon
  • Sleep is regulated
  • Muscle cramps may be prevented

This list of self-healing foods shows us that we do not have to waste time, energy and money on expensive diet plans and medical treatments. These examples of self-healing foods are easily available in the market and you can incorporate them in your diet by putting them on your salad, making a soup, or even opting for them as your pizza topping on your favorite cauliflower crust!
